Eat a light meal/snack about 2 hours prior to your appointment. It’s best not to come in too full or too hungry.
Avoid alcohol and strenuous activity at least 6 hours before your appointment.
Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing.
Bring any questions or concerns you’d like to discuss.
Drink plenty of water.
Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 12-24 hours.
Allow your body time to rest and relax. Acupuncture regulates your nervous system and you may feel tired as your body is finally able to enjoy time in the parasympathetic (or relaxation) state.

We will discuss your concerns and how acupuncture can help. I will then ask you many questions, some related specifically to your complaint and others seemingly unrelated. After we discuss everything I will feel your wrist pulses, take a look at your tongue, and palpate your abdomen, all of which can give me a better idea of your overall state. Your acupuncture treatment is next. You may feel certain sensations such as a dull ache, a tingling feeling, fullness, relaxation, or a tightness. Nothing should be uncomfortable or hurt. After treatment you may feel calm, relaxed, and possibly sleepy. That’s all normal! We can discuss any questions you have and schedule your follow-up treatment.
Everybody is different! It depends how long you’ve had your current condition as well as how you respond to treatments. Acupuncture works cumulatively and the best results are achieved by having more frequent visits in the beginning. As we see results, we can lengthen the time between appointments. There are three stages to wellness. The first goal is to alleviate your immediate symptoms and concerns. Next, we will work on the deeper underlying causes. Finally, we will have you come in every now and then to keep you feeling your best.
